Millions Awarded to Affordable Housing Projects Across Spokane

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane allocated $7. 5 million to nine affordable housing projects to enhance local housing availability and support vulnerable populations. The funding sources include $5 million from HEART Funds and nearly $1 million from HOME Development Funds. The new projects will create 95 mixed-income housing units, while rehabilitation efforts will preserve 50 existing units for low-income households. Additionally, a homeownership initiative will develop 12 townhomes, with six earmarked for families earning 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or less.

Mayor Brown highlighted the significance of these investments in promoting stability and opportunity within the community. The projects will specifically serve households earning 60% AMI or less, reflecting a targeted approach to affordable housing. This funding strategy aligns with broader efforts to tackle housing shortages in Spokane. By supporting diverse projects, the city aims to improve living conditions for various community segments.
