Millions Awarded to Affordable Housing Projects Across Spokane

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's recent funding initiative allocates $7. 5 million to nine affordable housing projects intended to enhance local housing availability. This funding is sourced from various programs, including $1 million from the 1406 Affordable Housing Development Funds and $999,098 from HOME Affordable Housing Development Funds. The projects will comprise four new constructions, generating 95 mixed-income units, with 63 units designated for families earning 60% of the Area Median Income or less. Furthermore, two rehabilitation projects will maintain 50 units for families earning 50% AMI or less while adding 49 units for those earning 80% AMI or less.

A new homeownership initiative is set to produce 12 single-family townhomes, with half allocated to families earning 80% AMI or below. Two projects are also focused on aiding vulnerable populations, benefiting 86 eligible households. Mayor Brown asserted the funds' role in fostering stability and opportunities for residents. The city's commitment reflects a broader effort to address affordable housing needs amid rising costs.
