Flags lowered for Spokane County sergeant killed in line of duty
Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at all City facilities to half-staff to honor Spokane County Sergeant Ken Salas, who died in the line of duty while assisting with a traffic hazard on Interstate 90. Brown expressed the city's profound sadness, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Salas, who was killed while serving our community. ” Flags will remain lowered until Monday, allowing the community to mourn collectively. The City of Spokane has encouraged residents and businesses to lower their flags in solidarity with Salas’s family and colleagues in the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Salas’s tragic death highlights the risks faced by law enforcement officers while serving their communities.
This gesture of respect reinforces the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by public safety personnel. The city’s actions aim to foster a sense of unity and support for those grieving. Such commemorations serve as a reminder of the community's bond and the sacrifices made for public safety.
