City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane launched a community climate policy survey to engage residents in shaping future climate action strategies. The survey, available in multiple languages, will remain open until August 31, 2025, and is crucial for informing the PlanSpokane 2046 update. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the need for diverse community feedback, as climate change affects all neighborhoods in the city. Earlier this year, more than 1,500 community members provided insights on climate challenges, contributing to a Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This assessment combined personal narratives with extensive data to pinpoint local climate risks and vulnerabilities.

The climate planning initiative receives funding from a state grant linked to Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution and enhance public health. The survey results will guide local policies that address climate hazards and promote resilience. Engaging the community in this process is essential for building a sustainable future in Spokane.
