City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
Spokane initiated a climate policy survey to shape future climate action plans, accepting responses until August 31, 2025. The survey seeks community input to develop policies that enhance local resilience to climate hazards, with results directly affecting the PlanSpokane 2046 update. Mayor Lisa Brown highlighted the survey's importance, stating, "We want to hear from people in every one of Spokane’s 29 neighborhoods. " Earlier this year, over 1,500 community members shared their experiences regarding climate challenges, contributing to the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This assessment integrated diverse perspectives with data to identify local climate risks.
The project receives funding through a state grant associated with Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution and improve public health. The survey accommodates multiple languages, including Spanish, Russian, and Arabic, promoting inclusivity. Community feedback is crucial as Spokane plans proactive responses to climate change impacts.
