City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey to gather input on local climate action strategies, aiming to build a resilient future. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey will inform the PlanSpokane 2046 update, integrating community priorities into future policies. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the importance of feedback from all 29 neighborhoods to address climate challenges effectively. Earlier this year, the community provided insights on climate issues like wildfires and extreme heat, with over 1,500 residents participating in the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This technical report combined diverse perspectives with extensive data to identify local climate risks and vulnerabilities.

The climate planning project is funded by a state grant through Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which invests in reducing climate pollution and improving public health. The survey is available in multiple languages to ensure broader participation. Engaging the community in this process is vital for effective climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
