City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
Spokane launched a community climate policy survey to gather input for future climate action policies, open until August 31, 2025. The survey will shape the PlanSpokane 2046 update, which directs future actions by city leaders. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the need for feedback from all 29 neighborhoods to ensure diverse perspectives are represented. Earlier this year, the city collected insights from over 1,500 residents about climate challenges, leading to a Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment that identified local climate risks and vulnerabilities. This assessment combined community stories with extensive data to provide a comprehensive view of the challenges faced.
The survey is available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and Arabic, to encourage wider participation. Funding for the climate planning project comes from a state grant supported by Washington's Climate Commitment Act. This act aims to reduce climate pollution while creating jobs and improving public health.
