City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey to inform local climate action strategies as part of its ongoing climate planning efforts. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey invites residents to share their policy preferences, ensuring diverse community input. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the importance of understanding priorities from all 29 neighborhoods to effectively address climate change. Earlier this year, the city gathered insights from over 1,500 community members regarding their experiences with climate challenges such as wildfires and extreme heat. This feedback contributed to the City of Spokane Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment, which identifies local climate risks by merging personal narratives with comprehensive data.
The climate planning project is funded by a state grant from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution and improve public health. This initiative represents a crucial step in shaping Spokane's future policies and resilience against climate hazards. Community participation will directly influence the PlanSpokane 2046 update, guiding future decisions by city leaders.
