City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane officials launched a community climate policy survey to gather input on future climate action strategies. The survey, which is accessible in English, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Marshallese, will remain open until August 31, 2025. Participation will help shape the PlanSpokane 2046 update, directing policies to mitigate and adapt to climate hazards. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the importance of community feedback in understanding priorities across Spokane's 29 neighborhoods. Earlier this year, over 1,500 residents shared their experiences and opinions on climate challenges, such as wildfires and extreme heat, contributing to a comprehensive climate risk assessment.

The assessment integrated diverse perspectives with data to identify local climate vulnerabilities. This climate planning project is funded through a state grant supported by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution and improve public health. The survey results will play a crucial role in determining future actions by city leaders and staff.
