City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey aimed at shaping future climate action strategies through resident feedback. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey invites input from the diverse backgrounds of Spokane's 29 neighborhoods, emphasizing inclusivity by offering multiple language options. Mayor Lisa Brown stressed the importance of community voices in addressing the pervasive effects of climate change. Earlier this year, over 1,500 community members shared their experiences related to climate challenges, which informed the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This assessment integrates local insights with extensive data to identify climate risks specific to Spokane.

The survey results will directly influence policies for the PlanSpokane 2046 update, guiding future city actions. Funded by a state grant, the project aligns with Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which supports climate action and public health improvements. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to enhancing Spokane's resilience against climate hazards.
