City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey to gather public input on future climate strategies. This survey, open until August 31, 2025, aims to influence policies integrated into the PlanSpokane 2046 update. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the importance of community feedback, stating that climate change impacts everyone and that input from all 29 neighborhoods is essential. Earlier this year, over 1,500 residents provided insights into climate challenges like wildfires and extreme heat, which contributed to the City of Spokane Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This technical report combined community experiences with extensive data to identify local climate risks.
The climate planning project is funded by a state grant from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which supports climate action efforts in the state. The survey is accessible in multiple languages, including Spanish, Russian, and Arabic, to ensure broad participation. Community engagement will play a crucial role in shaping Spokane's climate resilience strategies moving forward.
