City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane has launched a climate policy survey to engage the community in shaping future climate action plans. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey allows residents to express their preferences for policies addressing climate hazards and is available in six languages. Mayor Lisa Brown highlighted the need for feedback from all 29 neighborhoods to ensure a comprehensive understanding of community priorities. Earlier this year, Spokane residents provided insights on climate challenges, resulting in a Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment that integrated over 1,500 individual stories. This assessment utilized both personal experiences and extensive data to pinpoint local climate risks.

The climate planning project receives funding from a state grant, supported by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which invests in reducing climate pollution and improving public health. Community input will directly inform the PlanSpokane 2046 update, guiding city leaders in their future decisions. The initiative underscores Spokane's commitment to building resilience against climate change impacts.
