Mayor Brown Signs Updated 'Complete Streets' Ordinance into Law
Mayor Lisa Brown signed an updated "Complete Streets" ordinance on Wednesday, reinforcing Spokane's dedication to creating safe and accessible streets. The ordinance, spearheaded by Transportation and Sustainability Director Jon Snyder and backed by Councilmembers Kitty Klitzke and Paul Dillon, modernizes the Spokane Municipal Code. It incorporates key elements from the Pedestrian Master Plan and Bicycle Priority Network while aligning with state law. This legislative update is expected to save costs on improvements and enhance the city's street network for pedestrians and cyclists. “Complete Streets are for everyone,” Brown remarked, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the policy.
Klitzke noted the collaborative effort in updating a decade-old policy, which aims to address broader mobility concerns. Dillon added that these changes reflect a commitment to community stakeholders and neighborhoods. The updates will also improve Spokane's chances of securing state grant funding for transportation projects.
