City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey as part of its climate planning efforts to engage residents in shaping future policies. The survey is open until August 31, 2025, and aims to gather input on preferred actions to mitigate climate hazards. Mayor Lisa Brown highlighted the importance of community feedback, stating that climate change impacts everyone in Spokane's 29 neighborhoods. Earlier this year, over 1,500 residents contributed their insights on climate challenges, which informed the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This assessment combines diverse community perspectives with data to pinpoint local climate risks.
The climate planning project is funded by a state grant from the Washington Department of Commerce, supported by the Climate Commitment Act. This act aims to reduce climate pollution and enhance public health through cap-and-invest funding. The survey is available in multiple languages, reflecting the city's commitment to inclusivity in climate planning.
