City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey to gather input on local climate action strategies. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey will guide future policies integrated into the PlanSpokane 2046 Comprehensive Plan update. Mayor Lisa Brown stressed the importance of community feedback from the city's 29 neighborhoods to prioritize local needs. Earlier this year, over 1,500 residents provided insights on climate challenges, such as wildfires and extreme heat, contributing to the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This report combined personal narratives with extensive data to identify local climate risks and vulnerabilities.
The climate planning project is funded by a state grant from the Washington Department of Commerce, supported by the Climate Commitment Act. This act aims to reduce climate pollution and improve public health while promoting job creation. The survey is available in multiple languages, ensuring broader community engagement.
