City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning
The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey to gather public input on climate action policies. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey will inform the PlanSpokane 2046 update, which directs future city actions. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the importance of feedback from all 29 neighborhoods, asserting that "climate change affects us all. " Earlier community engagement revealed that over 1,500 residents shared their experiences regarding climate challenges such as wildfires and extreme heat. This input contributed to the City of Spokane Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment.
The project is funded through a state grant supported by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution and enhance public health. The survey is available in multiple languages, ensuring accessibility for all community members. Results will play a crucial role in shaping policies that enhance Spokane's resilience to climate hazards.
