City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey to gather input for future climate action strategies. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey invites feedback from residents on preferred climate policies, aiming for inclusive participation across all neighborhoods. The results will directly influence the PlanSpokane 2046 update, a comprehensive plan guiding local responses to climate hazards. Mayor Lisa Brown underscored the importance of community input, stating that climate change affects everyone in Spokane. Earlier this year, over 1,500 community members contributed insights on climate challenges, which were integrated into the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment.

This assessment utilized diverse perspectives to identify local climate risks and vulnerabilities. The climate planning initiative is funded by a state grant associated with Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution and enhance public health. Information about the Climate Commitment Act is accessible on the state’s website.
