City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane has launched a community climate policy survey to inform future goals and policies for climate resilience. Residents can provide input until August 31, 2025, with the survey available in six languages. Mayor Lisa Brown highlighted the necessity of gathering diverse community feedback, as climate change impacts all neighborhoods. Earlier this year, a Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment was developed from insights shared by over 1,500 residents about their experiences with climate issues like wildfires and extreme heat. This assessment integrated personal stories with data to pinpoint local climate risks.

The Climate Planning project receives funding from a state grant linked to Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which aims to mitigate climate pollution and promote public health initiatives. This survey is critical for shaping the upcoming PlanSpokane 2046 update, influencing city decisions for years to come. Ultimately, the engagement aims to foster a proactive approach to climate challenges in Spokane.
