City Seeks Feedback For Climate Planning

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane launched a community climate policy survey to gather public input on future climate action strategies. Open until August 31, 2025, the survey aims to influence the PlanSpokane 2046 update, which will guide local policies. Mayor Lisa Brown emphasized the need for feedback from all 29 neighborhoods to understand diverse community priorities. Earlier this year, over 1,500 residents shared their experiences with climate challenges like wildfires and extreme heat, which informed the City of Spokane Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment. This assessment combined local insights with extensive data to identify climate risks and vulnerabilities.

The climate planning project receives funding from a state grant linked to Washington’s Climate Commitment Act. The Act supports climate action by using cap-and-invest funds to reduce pollution and enhance public health. Information about the Climate Commitment Act is available on the state's website.
