Spokane River Flows Meet Level 2 Drought Response

Spokane River levels have triggered Level 2 watering restrictions, as the flow fell below 1,000 cubic feet per second. These measures are part of the water conservation ordinance passed by the City Council in 2022. Residents are required to limit outdoor watering between 10 a. m. and 6 p.

m. and restrict watering to two days per week. Public Works Director Marlene Feist underscores the importance of individual contributions in safeguarding the river and aquifer. The Water Wise Spokane program provides no-cost consultations to aid residents and businesses in reducing water consumption year-round. Spokane's summer water usage is four times the national average, with half of the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer's recharge sourced from the river.

Community participation has been crucial, saving 45. 5 million gallons of water in 2024 alone. These efforts are vital for preserving local water resources amid increasing summer demand.
