On July 19, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in Spokane when a male passenger on an electric scooter fell into the roadway and was struck by a semi-truck. The operator of the scooter fell back onto the sidewalk and was unharmed. Emergency responders, including officers and Spokane Fire, attempted life-saving measures, but the passenger succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The semi-truck driver cooperated with law enforcement and showed no signs of impairment. Authorities closed the area for several hours to investigate the incident thoroughly.

This incident highlights the potential dangers of riding electric scooters on sidewalks near busy roadways. The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office will release the identity of the deceased at a later date.
