Lincoln Park Shelter Gets Makeover with Help from Kids and Community

Spokane, WALocal News

Franklin Elementary unveiled a mural designed by local artist Corinna Ren at Lincoln Park on July 25, 2025, showcasing the collaborative efforts of 434 students. The mural project began over two years ago when parents Cara Halldin and Holly Thompson-Duffy approached the Parks & Recreation department with the idea. With $10,000 in grant funding from the Spokane Arts SAGA program, the project gained momentum, leading to Ren's selection from a pool of artists. Students contributed ideas for the mural's design, which features local flora and fauna, including turkeys, deer, and elderberries. The project received support from local businesses, ensuring successful execution.

During the unveiling, Thompson-Duffy emphasized the importance of community collaboration in achieving significant goals. The mural serves as a testament to the creativity and engagement of Franklin Elementary students. This initiative highlights Spokane's commitment to community-driven projects that enhance local spaces.
