Spokane River Flows Meet Level 2 Drought Response
Spokane River levels have fallen below 1,000 cubic feet per second, triggering Level 2 watering restrictions aimed at conserving water. Public Works Director Marlene Feist highlighted the collective impact of small actions in protecting local water sources. Residents must limit outdoor watering to two days per week and are prohibited from watering between 10 a. m. and 6 p.
m. Additionally, they should refrain from using water for cleaning hardscapes. The Water Wise Spokane program offers free consultations to assist residents and businesses in reducing water usage year-round and has saved over 344 million gallons since its inception. Spokane's water consumption in summer months is four times the national average, making these restrictions crucial. Furthermore, approximately half of the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer's recharge comes from the Spokane River.
Thanks to community participation, 45. 5 million gallons of water were saved in 2024, underscoring the importance of conservation efforts.
