Spokane River Flows Meet Level 2 Drought Response
Spokane River levels have fallen below 1,000 cubic feet per second, triggering Level 2 watering restrictions under a city ordinance. Residents must avoid outdoor watering from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m.
, limit watering to two days each week, and restrict total watering to two hours per day. This action aims to protect the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer, which supplies local drinking water. Public Works Director Marlene Feist emphasized the importance of collective efforts in conserving water resources. The Water Wise Spokane program provides free consultations to help residents and businesses reduce water use year-round. Since its inception, the program has saved over 344 million gallons of water through education and outreach.
Spokane’s summer water usage is four times the national average, highlighting the need for conservation efforts. Strong community involvement has resulted in the saving of 45. 5 million gallons of water in 2024 alone.
