Spokane River Flows Meet Level 2 Drought Response
Spokane River levels have declined to below 1,000 cubic feet per second, activating Level 2 watering restrictions. Under these rules, residents are limited to watering two days a week and must refrain from outdoor watering during the hours of 10 a. m. to 6 p. m.
Public Works Director Marlene Feist highlighted the significant impact of individual efforts on the health of the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer. The city encourages participation in the Water Wise Spokane program, which offers free consultations to help reduce water use. Since the program's launch, it has saved over 344 million gallons of water through various educational initiatives. In 2024 alone, community efforts resulted in a conservation of 45. 5 million gallons.
Spokane consumes four times the national average of water during summer months, underscoring the need for these measures. The ordinance aims to promote sustainable water practices amid ongoing drought concerns.
