Spokane River Flows Meet Level 2 Drought Response

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane River levels have fallen below 1,000 cubic feet per second, prompting the city to activate Level 2 watering restrictions outlined in a 2022 ordinance. Residents must now limit outdoor watering to two days per week and refrain from watering between 10 a. m. and 6 p. m.

Public Works Director Marlene Feist stated that collective actions are crucial for safeguarding the Spokane River and the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer. The Water Wise Spokane program provides free consultations to help residents and businesses minimize water use year-round. Spokane's summer water consumption is four times the national average, with half of the aquifer's recharge coming from the Spokane River. Due to community participation, conservation programs saved 45. 5 million gallons of water in 2024.

These measures are essential for maintaining local water quality and availability. The city urges residents to adopt these practices to ensure a sustainable future.
