Juvenile suspect in custody after fleeing scene of hit and run collision on Spokanes South-Hill

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at 49th and Perry around 5:30 a. m. today. The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving behind the vehicle and a passenger, while an adult female jogger was found unresponsive and later hospitalized in critical condition. Community members provided a description of the suspect, leading officers to detain a 17-year-old male who was barefoot in the vicinity of 195 and Eagle Ridge.

Preliminary investigations suggest that speed and impairment played a role in the incident, which occurred while the victim and a friend were jogging. The suspect now faces serious charges, including Vehicular Assault, Felony Hit and Run, and DUI. The passenger in the vehicle, also a juvenile, received treatment for minor injuries. This incident raises concerns about pedestrian safety and the dangers of impaired driving. Local authorities are emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in reporting such incidents.
