Spokane's water system upgrade will commence on July 7, affecting traffic on west Francis Ave. and north Assembly St. The project, with a budget of $3. 25 million, will install a new water transmission main to enhance water reliability and accommodate future growth. Motorists are advised to expect detours and temporary traffic signals at the intersection of Francis Ave.

and Assembly St. Northbound Assembly St. will close between Rowan Ave. and Francis Ave. /Hwy 291, while southbound Assembly St.

will close from Francis Ave. /Hwy 291 to Rowan Ave. The first phase is part of a larger initiative aimed at upgrading water, sewer, stormwater, and traffic infrastructure in the area. The project will conclude by November 2025, with further phases leading to additional closures on nearby streets. A noise variance allows construction activities from 6 a.

m. to 6 p. m. , Monday through Saturday. City officials urge residents to support local businesses affected by the construction.
