SPD Investigates Several Intentionally Set Fires

Spokane Police arrested Chad Horne, 37, on July 9, 2025, for 2nd Degree Arson following an investigation into a series of intentionally set fires. Horne was last seen near a Walmart in Spokane Valley and had reportedly changed clothes prior to his capture. The police had established probable cause for his arrest based on eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage. The Major Crimes Unit is probing the fires that occurred on July 8, which involved four structures, including a charging station and a grocery store. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from the fires, but the incidents raised alarms due to the forecast of hot, dry, and windy weather.
