Underhill Sport Court Renovation Ribbon Cutting July 3, 10 a.m.

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will celebrate the renovation of Underhill Park's sport courts with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 3, featuring local dignitaries and youth basketball players. The project, completed on schedule and within budget, added two basketball courts and two dedicated pickleball courts, along with new sidewalks and lighting. Funding was provided by the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and generous donations from local organizations. Garrett Jones, director of Spokane Parks & Recreation, noted the community's desire for better-maintained parks, highlighting the renovations as a step toward enhancing local recreational facilities. The courts reopened for community use in the fall, with final landscaping completed in spring.

If voters approve the proposed Parks & Recreation levy in November, similar renovations will be extended to all sport courts citywide. This initiative aims to promote active lifestyles and community engagement across Spokane. The city manages nearly 120 properties, offering diverse recreational opportunities for residents.
