Underhill Sport Court Renovation Ribbon Cutting July 3, 10 a.m.

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 3 to celebrate the completion of renovated sport courts at Underhill Park, attended by local officials and youth players. The renovation included two basketball courts, two dedicated pickleball courts, and enhancements to sidewalks and lighting, all completed on budget and schedule. Funding sources included the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching state grant, and contributions from local organizations like the Spokane Hoopfest Association. If approved in November, a new Parks & Recreation levy could provide funding for renovations of every sport court across the city. Director Garrett Jones highlighted community feedback that emphasized the need for better-maintained parks.

Renovated courts are meant to encourage positive community interaction and ensure safety for all users. The Underhill Park courts have been open for community use since last fall, with final landscaping completed this spring. The project reflects a broader commitment to enhancing recreational spaces for diverse age groups and abilities.
