Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

Fire authorities in the Spokane Metro Area initiated burn restrictions effective June 30, 2025, due to an increased risk of wildfires despite recent rain and cooler temperatures. The Spokane Valley Fire Department and other local agencies enacted the restrictions to prevent human-caused wildfires as high temperatures loom. All unauthorized open burning and recreational fires are banned until further notice, although some manufactured outdoor devices may be used in accordance with guidelines. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl stated that these measures are essential for community protection. Deputy Fire Marshal Ken Johnson called on residents to remain alert and adhere to fire safety practices.

He noted that the combination of low spring rainfall and warm conditions has heightened wildfire risks. The restrictions also aim to protect air quality by reducing smoke exposure, which can adversely affect vulnerable populations. Violators may face misdemeanor charges if they fail to comply with the burn restrictions.
