Underhill Sport Court Renovation Ribbon Cutting July 3, 10 a.m.
Spokane will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 3 for the renovated sport courts at Underhill Park, featuring local officials and youth basketball players. The project included two basketball courts, two pickleball courts, upgraded sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping, all completed on budget and on schedule. Funding for the renovation came from the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and generous contributions from local sponsors. Parks director Garrett Jones stated that community feedback highlighted the need for improved park maintenance to create safe gathering places. If the proposed Parks & Recreation levy passes in November, every sport court in the city will undergo similar renovations, enhancing recreational opportunities.
This initiative is part of the broader Together Spokane campaign aimed at improving community facilities. The renovated courts reopened for public use last fall, with final landscaping completed in spring. Spokane Parks and Recreation manages nearly 120 properties across 4,000 acres, promoting health and quality of life through diverse recreational opportunities.
