Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Valley Fire Department and surrounding agencies enacted a Countywide Burn Restriction on June 30, 2025, due to elevated fire risks from dry weather and low rainfall. Unauthorized open burning and recreational fires are strictly prohibited to mitigate human-caused wildfires and protect local communities. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl stated that these restrictions serve as an essential safeguard against significant wildfire incidents. Deputy Fire Marshal Ken Johnson highlighted the importance of fire safety, urging residents to remain alert during the 2025 wildfire season. The restrictions also aim to preserve air quality, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.

While manufactured outdoor devices are allowed if used correctly, violators face misdemeanor charges for non-compliance. Residents are encouraged to follow safety guidelines and report any fire signs to local authorities. The proactive measures reflect a commitment to community safety amid challenging environmental conditions.
