SPD Investigates Several Intentionally Set Fires

Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating a series of intentionally set fires that occurred in the early hours of July 8, 2025. The first fire ignited at My Fresh Basket around 4:15 AM, followed by a vehicle charging station fire on the Washington State University campus and a structure fire on East 3rd Avenue. Fire crews quickly identified three separate structures intentionally set ablaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incidents raise alarms due to the forecast of hot and dry weather conditions. Police are gathering evidence and call on the public to share any surveillance footage that may assist the investigation.

They stress the importance of community involvement during this critical time. Investigators are also exploring the possibility of additional related fires in the area. The situation underscores the urgency for vigilance as Spokane grapples with fire risks amid extreme weather.
