Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

Effective June 30, 2025, Spokane area fire marshals imposed burn restrictions to address the elevated risk of wildfires, despite cooler temperatures and recent rainfall. The restrictions prohibit unauthorized open burning and recreational fires, including backyard fire pits and campfires. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl noted that these measures are crucial for community protection against human-caused wildfires. In light of the upcoming wildfire season, Deputy Fire Marshal Ken Johnson encouraged residents to practice fire safety and report any signs of fire. The restrictions also aim to safeguard air quality, especially for young, elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

Approved outdoor devices like fireplaces and barbecue grills can still be used if they adhere to safety guidelines. Violators of the burn restrictions may face misdemeanor charges for failing to extinguish unauthorized fires. Residents are advised to consult local agencies with any questions regarding the restrictions.
