Pedestrian and Bike Improvement Projects Begin Next Week

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will begin two pedestrian and bicycle improvement projects on June 30, emphasizing the need for motorists and cyclists to plan for detours and delays. The Lincoln St. project will enhance infrastructure with buffered bike lanes, widened sidewalks, and a new traffic signal at Lincoln St. and Broadway Ave. , closing Lincoln St.

from Boone Ave. to Sinto Ave. until September. Additionally, the Maxwell Ave. project aims to improve safety and connectivity in the West Central Neighborhood with new sidewalks and bike lanes, expected to be completed by October.

Local access for residents will be maintained throughout both projects, and businesses will remain accessible, prompting community support. Current obstruction information is available on the city’s construction webpage. These improvements are part of Spokane's broader initiative to enhance public safety and promote active transportation options. The Maxwell Ave. upgrades are funded by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which supports climate action efforts.

Enhanced infrastructure aims to foster safer environments for pedestrians and cyclists while reducing traffic congestion.
