Flags Lowered for Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff to honor two firefighters killed in a tragic ambush in Coeur d’Alene. The ambush took place on June 29, 2025, when the firefighters responded to a brush fire on Canfield Mountain. In addition to the fatalities, one firefighter sustained injuries during the attack. Mayor Brown expressed deep condolences to the families affected, stating, “Our hearts are with the community of Coeur d’Alene in the wake of this devastating tragedy. ” She affirmed the City of Spokane's solidarity with Coeur d’Alene as they mourn and heal from this loss.
