Water System Project Will Impact Northwest Intersection
Spokane will initiate a significant upgrade to its water system, starting July 7, which will affect traffic at the intersection of west Francis Ave. /Highway 291 and north Assembly St. Motorists are advised to prepare for detours and temporary traffic signals in place until approximately August 15. The $3. 25 million project involves installing a new water transmission main to boost water reliability and accommodate future growth.
Northbound Assembly St. will close between Rowan Ave. and Francis Ave. /Hwy 291, while access to the Dwight Merkel Complex will remain available at Rowan Ave. This upgrade is the first phase of a broader initiative to enhance water, sewer, and traffic infrastructure in the area.
The project will unfold in three phases, with completion expected by November 2025. Future phases will include additional lane and street closures on various local roads. Residents can find current obstruction information on the city’s construction webpage to stay updated.
