Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will celebrate the completion of sport court renovations at Underhill Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 3, 2025. The event will feature local dignitaries and youth basketball players, showcasing community engagement in the project. The renovation, completed on schedule and within budget, included two upgraded basketball courts, two dedicated pickleball courts, improved sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, and fencing. Funding sources included the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and support from local organizations like Spokane Hoopfest Association and Dick’s Sporting Goods. If the Parks & Recreation levy passes in November, every sport court in the city will undergo similar renovations.

Garrett Jones, Parks Director, stated that enhancements to parks are crucial for maintaining functional and inviting community spaces. The project aims to promote safety and healthy activities for all ages. Spokane Parks and Recreation manages nearly 120 properties across 4,000 acres, offering diverse recreational opportunities.
