Pedestrian and Bike Improvement Projects Begin Next Week

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane will initiate two significant pedestrian and bicycle improvement projects starting June 30, requiring motorists to adjust their travel plans. The Lincoln St. Pedestrian and Bike Safety Project will enhance infrastructure with buffered bike lanes, widened sidewalks, and a new traffic signal, closing sections from Boone Ave. to Sinto Ave. until September.

Motorists can expect detours and slower speeds, while local businesses will remain open for customers. The Maxwell Ave. project, supported by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, aims to better connect the West Central Neighborhood with AM Cannon Park through new sidewalks and buffered bike lanes, with completion expected in October. Both projects focus on improving safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians. Local residential access will remain intact during the construction period.

City officials urge residents to support businesses affected by these necessary improvements. Traffic delays and lane reductions are anticipated throughout both projects.
