Underhill Sport Court Renovation Ribbon Cutting July 3, 10 a.m.

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will celebrate the renovation of Underhill Park's sports courts on July 3, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring local dignitaries and youth basketball players. The project included two basketball courts, two dedicated pickleball courts, new sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, and fence upgrades, all completed on budget and schedule. Funding came from the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and contributions from local organizations. Mayor Brown, Council President Wilkerson, and other community leaders will speak at the event. The renovations represent a response to community desires for better-maintained parks, as indicated in the Master Plan outreach.

If voters approve the Parks & Recreation levy in November, every sport court in Spokane could receive similar upgrades. Garrett Jones, the Parks & Recreation director, highlighted the importance of creating safe, healthy gathering places for diverse community members. The Parks and Recreation department manages nearly 120 properties, aiming to enhance the quality of life for Spokane residents.
