Underhill Sport Court Renovation Ribbon Cutting July 3, 10 a.m.

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 3 at 10 a. m. to celebrate the completion of renovations at Underhill Park’s sport courts. The project, funded by the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation and a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, included two newly renovated basketball courts, two dedicated pickleball courts, and improvements to sidewalks and lighting. Youth basketball players from the Spokane Eastside Reunion Association will participate in the ceremony alongside local officials, including Mayor Brown and Council President Wilkerson.

If the Parks & Recreation levy, part of the Together Spokane initiative, is approved by voters in November, every sport court in the city will receive a full renovation. Garrett Jones, director of Spokane Parks & Recreation, noted that community input highlighted the need for better-maintained parks, making these renovations crucial for enhancing local recreational spaces. The renovations were completed on budget and on schedule, with landscaping finalized in the spring. Spokane Parks and Recreation manages nearly 120 properties across 4,000 acres, aiming to improve community health and quality of life.
