Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will celebrate the reopening of renovated sport courts at Underhill Park on July 3, 2025, at 10 a. m. The event will feature local dignitaries, including Mayor Brown and Council President Wilkerson, as well as youth players from the Spokane Eastside Reunion Association (SERA). The renovation included two basketball courts, two dedicated pickleball courts, and upgrades to sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping, all completed within budget and on time. Funding for the project came from the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and generous donations from local organizations.

If the November Parks & Recreation levy passes, every sport court in Spokane will receive similar renovations to enhance community spaces. Parks & Recreation Director Garrett Jones highlighted community feedback that prioritized better-maintained parks. The renovations aim to create safe, healthy gathering places for residents of all ages and abilities. Spokane Parks and Recreation manages nearly 120 properties across 4,000 acres, offering extensive recreational opportunities.
