Underhill Sport Court Renovation Ribbon Cutting July 3, 10 a.m.

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 3 at 10 a. m. to unveil the renovated sport courts at Underhill Park. The project, completed last fall, included two new basketball courts, two dedicated pickleball courts, and improvements to sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping. Funding for the $500,000 project came from the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and local sponsors such as Spokane Hoopfest Association.

If approved in November, the Parks & Recreation levy could fund renovations for every sport court in the city, responding to community desires for better-maintained parks. Parks and Recreation Director Garrett Jones highlighted the importance of the renovations in creating safe, functional spaces for all ages. Youth basketball players from the Spokane Eastside Reunion Association will participate in the ceremony. The upgrades aim to enhance the quality of life for residents by promoting healthy community engagement. Spokane Parks and Recreation manages nearly 120 properties across 4,000 acres, providing diverse recreational opportunities.
