Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

Fire marshals in the Spokane area enacted burn restrictions on June 30, 2025, to address heightened wildfire risks due to warm weather patterns. The Spokane Valley Fire Department and other local agencies aim to mitigate human-caused wildfires by restricting unauthorized open burning and recreational fires. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl emphasized the necessity of these restrictions for community protection against significant wildfire incidents. Violators who do not comply with fire extinguishing orders may face misdemeanor charges. The restrictions allow for the use of approved portable outdoor devices, such as barbeques and chimineas, provided they are used correctly.

Deputy Fire Marshal Ken Johnson urged residents to practice fire safety and report any fire hazards. These measures are critical, especially given the adverse health effects of smoke on vulnerable populations. Community adherence to these guidelines will help maintain air quality and reduce fire risks throughout the summer.
