Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

On June 18, 2025, firefighters successfully contained a suspicious brush fire in Spokane's Latah Valley. The fire ignited in the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road, covering less than an acre, after Battalion 1 observed a smoke column during mutual aid for another wildfire. Crews from the Spokane Fire Department, supported by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10, arrived quickly and managed to control the blaze within an hour. Currently, the cause of the fire is under investigation and is considered suspicious. Investigators are seeking information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger with noticeable items in its bed, which was seen leaving the area shortly after the fire started.
