Fast Response Contains Suspicious Brush Fire in Latah Valley

On June 18, 2025, at about 3:45 p. m. , Battalion 1 observed a smoke column while offering mutual aid for a wildfire in Spokane. Firefighters quickly reached the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road, discovering a grass and brush fire under an acre in size. The Spokane Fire Department, with support from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 10, acted swiftly, containing the fire and mopping up hot spots within an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and is deemed suspicious. Authorities are seeking information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger with items in its bed, which was seen leaving the vicinity shortly after the fire started. This response highlights the importance of rapid action in preventing larger wildfires. Residents are reminded to report suspicious activity to help ensure community safety.
