A suspicious grass and brush fire ignited in Spokane's Latah Valley on June 18, 2025, around 3:45 p. m. Battalion 1 spotted a smoke column while providing mutual aid for another wildfire. Crews responded to the fire in the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road, containing it within an hour and starting mopping operations shortly thereafter. The fire, burning under an acre, posed a threat to the timbered area but was swiftly managed.

Investigators currently consider the cause suspicious and are seeking information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger seen leaving the vicinity shortly after the fire began. Local authorities emphasize the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of wildfire management in the region, particularly amid increased fire risks.
