Pedestrian and Bike Improvement Projects Begin Next Week

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane will launch two pedestrian and bicycle improvement projects on June 30, significantly enhancing local infrastructure. The Lincoln St. project, running from W. Boone Ave. to W.

Sinto Ave. , will include buffered bike lanes, widened sidewalks, and a new traffic signal, with anticipated closures lasting until September. The Maxwell Ave. project will upgrade infrastructure between Pettet Dr. and Walnut St.

, expected to be completed by October. Both projects aim to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians, but will lead to road closures and detours for motorists, who should prepare for traffic delays. Local residential access will be upheld, and businesses are urged to remain supportive during the construction. The funding for these enhancements comes from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution and improve public health. Motorists can use alternate routes such as north Monroe St.

and west Boone Ave. to navigate around the closures. Information on current obstructions can be found on the City’s construction webpage.
